Self-defence courses for Indian girls
Karate against sexual assaults:
Current media reports on sexual assaults in India shock the world and illustrate which problems Indian women are confronted with.
Our self-defence courses (Karate) offered since October to our students and girls of the surrounding villages, are a significant contribution to conflict prevention relating to sexual assaults on girls. They aim at preparing them for possible violent assaults and subsequently improving their position in society through an increased self-confidence.
Construction of a SONNE School in Bihar
Currently Basari Village students are studying in the open – but not for much longer!
Outdoor education will soon be history. The construction of a new school building for up to 120 students commenced in October 2014.
In December 2014 the structural work was completed. The second building phase started in May 2015 so that our students will soon be able to enjoy their lessons in comfortable classrooms.
This is how the future yard of the new school currently looks:

Kyi Pyar has a dream
Kyi Pyar is a frail 14 year old girl from the village of Nga Pyaw Kyaun in Myanmar. Her parents earn their money by selling water (during the dry season) or collecting firewood and bamboo. Despite the adverse circumstances the girl has one dream: she wants to free her family from the current, incriminating situation by in future earning her money as a teacher.
This is why she works hard and attends the NPK village school, which is supported by SONNE-International, as regularly as possible. One morning in class Kyi Pyar passed out and fell to the floor.
“The Austrian development organisation SONNE-International provides energetic help where it is needed most: they enable an education for children and adolescents in poor countries.”
Hubert von Goisern – Austrian singer-songwriter
What we achieve
We all wish for a fairer world. SONNE-International contributes its part. This is how we do it:
SONNE-International is an Austrian relief organisation that was founded in 2002 by the Carinthian development aid worker Mag. Erfried Malle and the Styrian doctor Dr. Susanne Prügger. We campaign for a life in dignity, which includes decreasing poverty, assuring access to food at any time and regulated health care. We achieve this in our project countries Ethiopia, Bangladesh, India and Myanmar by operating schools and through professional education, income-generating projects and micro-credits.
The main beneficiaries of our educational and training projects are disadvantaged population groups, in particular members of minorities, children and women.

„Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.“
Who we are
No matter whether we work as volunteers or full-time, from at home or on site, with the one or other main focus concerning our possibilities and interests – we all at SONNE-International aim at the same goal: we want to actively contribute to improving the living conditions of the poor in our project countries. In Austria, approximately 20 volunteers help with our projects.
