Corruption

Corruption is a major problem in Myanmar. In 2010, Myanmar came second to last (of 178 states) according to Transparency International’s corruption index.

The long-standing political and economic isolation of the country has led to the extreme impoverishment of the population. The continually rising costs of living together with an acute lack of income-generating possibilities constitute a challenge that the people find increasingly difficult to cope with.
