In 2010 SONNE-International started a new cooperation in the field of education in Bihar, India, with our Indian partner organization “Light of Education”.

Bihar is the most populous Indian federal state, but alas also the poorest one.

Public schools do exist, but the majority of the children are unable to attend them as their families cannot afford the necessary school supplies (books, pencils etc.).

The average monthly income per family is 660 rupees (about 13 €). 60% of the population are illiterate.
