Hunger prevention project in Ethiopia discontinued
This project was discontinued unexpectedly, due to insufficient financial resources. As a consequence, only 150 families were provided with goats instead of the planned 350 families. (April 2009)

New Ethiopian project
Parts of the Afar Region had no rain at all between September 2007 and September 2008. As a consequence of the catastrophic drought, the population is suffering severely from hunger. It is the aim of this project to prevent hunger by restocking the goat herds. These animals represent the basis for a renewed expansion of livestock levels.
Our thanks go to the “Child & Family Foundation” of the company Lyoness for providing the funding for this project.

Food Crisis in the Afar Region (Ethiopia)
As there has been no rain in parts of the Afar Region during the past year, people are suffering from severe hunger as a consequence of the catastrophic droughts.
It is estimated that around 80% of the population in the areas
concerned is affected by malnutrition, a total of 1200 people (85%
children under 5 years of age) are being treated for severe acute
nutrition by our partner organisation. Since June 2008, 150 cases of
death from starvation have been recorded, though the number of
unreported cases is estimated to be significantly higher.
